A shell, almost a petal that houses and protects without closing itself off. The Martha armchair, designed by Roberto Lazzeroni for Poltrona Frau, manages to combine comfort and lightness. Soft forms and fine materials for an airy, relaxed elegance. The Martha rocking chair is its most playful and informal version: the rocking base in solid ash, an authentic masterpiece of wood craftsmanship, creates a comfortable and fun rocking chair.
The design of the Martha rocking chair arises from the meeting of the two principal elements of the shell, both made of rigid polyurethane obtained by molding. The seat and armrests form part of a single, sinuous, open line, with both ends inclined outward. The curved and slightly padded backrest appears to float in the air; in reality it is attached to the shell by a concealed system. A triangular‑section wood trestle supports the whole. A slight tilt of the seat toward the back promotes optimal comfort and accentuates the dynamic design of the chair. The rocking base is made of solid ash wood. The play of colors and material contrasts helps emphasize Martha’s fluid and light line. The outer shell is covered by a rich Saddle Extra leather casing, while the interior may be upholstered in Pelle Frau® or fabric, by choice. Distinguished visible stitching, done by hand with contrasting thread, underlines the combination of the two materials. Completing it all is a soft removable seat cushion in Pelle Frau® or fabric. Martha is made with FSC® 100% certified wood.

know the brand
Poltrona Frau
Noted for their exhaustive quality standards, the company uses a 21-step leather tanning process (vs. industry standard ranging from 12-15 steps) where the full-grain leather is dyed through, so a surface scratch won’t reveal a lining underneath. 95% of Poltrona Frau’s products are made by hand.
The Pelle Frau® leather tanning processes are exclusively combined with chrome treatments, which guarantee greater chemical and biological stability, to preserve the softness and flexibility of the leathers. Selected and produced by the finest quality Italian tanneries, Pelle Frau® leather is only “admitted” to the production process after it has passed a series of tests in the Poltrona Frau laboratories: from sensory tests to evaluate its hand, touch, colour, appearance and choice, to physical and mechanical tests that guarantee its impermeability, breathability and resistance to rubbing and stains.
