Archibald Stool With Wood Base
Archibald Stool With Wood Base
Proof Living is an authorised dealer. Purchasing through parallel importers can void warranty, installation and after-sales support.
The backrest frame of the Archibald Stools is made from moulded rigid polyurethane. The internal padding is in soft moulded polyurethane and polyester wadding. The seat frame is made from birch plywood with padding in polyurethane foam and polyester wadding. It is supported by an apron which connects it to the base. The seat is upholstered entirely in Pelle FrauĀ® leather or fabric. The Archibald Stools can come with a wooden 4-legged base, available in two heights, or the classic metal stem. In the former, the feet are in solid ash and come with a Moka or Wenge stain, and there is a rectangular-section stainless steel footrest which has a unidirectional brushed finish on the top side and a mirror-polished finish on the other three sides. In the version with metal base the steel stem swivels and its height can be adjusted using a cushioned gas spring controlled by a stainless steel lever positioned underneath the seat to the right. The stainless steel footrest with rectangular section gradually thins towards the outside. The floor base plate is also made of steel. All visible surfaces are in mirror-polished steel except for the top of the footrest which has a unidirectional brushed finish.

Meet The Designer
Jean-Marie Massaud
Born in Toulouse in 1966, Jean-Marie Massaud graduated in 1990 from Les Ateliers, Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle, Paris. He began to work both in Asia and in France, finally opening his own office in Paris in 1994. Since then, he has dedicated himself to industrial and furniture design, building important relationships with brands such as Authentics, Baccarat and Magis.
His collaboration with Marc Berthier and his work in the field of town planning led him towards design and architecture. He is concerned with design in various contexts, industrial products and furniture. His contextual approach centres on research into the essential, within which the individual remains the centre of attention. It is a work upheld by research into the senses, magic, and vital emotion which brings him to work with very different brands: Cassina, Poltrona Frau, Cappellini, Cacharel, Lancôme, Tronconi and Yamaha offshore.
His works have been awarded several prizes and many of his designs are nowadays on show in the design collections of major museums worldwide: from Amsterdam, Chicago, London, Paris and Zurich: from the permanent collection of the Musée National d'Art Moderne de Paris to the permanent collections of the Museum für Gestaltung, Zürich, of The Chicago Athenaeum- Museum of Architecture and Design, of The Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam and of The Musée des arts Décoratifs, Paris.
know the brand
Poltrona Frau
Noted for their exhaustive quality standards, the company uses a 21-step leather tanning process (vs. industry standard ranging from 12-15 steps) where the full-grain leather is dyed through, so a surface scratch wonāt reveal a lining underneath. 95% of Poltrona Frauās products are made by hand.
The Pelle FrauĀ® leather tanning processes are exclusively combined with chrome treatments, which guarantee greater chemical and biological stability, to preserve the softness and flexibility of the leathers. Selected and produced by the finest quality Italian tanneries, Pelle FrauĀ® leather is only āadmittedā to the production process after it has passed a series of tests in the Poltrona Frau laboratories: from sensory tests to evaluate its hand, touch, colour, appearance and choice, to physical and mechanical tests that guarantee its impermeability, breathability and resistance to rubbing and stains.
